Antique Ecuador Spanish Colonial Silver Tupu Tupo Pin Brooch Pendant Shawl Glass. Amazing Tupu brooch pin. This is South American in origin and likely Ecuadorian. It could be from the 1800s or ant any point before then. They have been made and used in this region for thousands of years. Its very large at about 5 in diameter. These were worn in pairs to keeps a woman shawl up around her shoulders. They were worn as a show of wealth in addition to their function. Most of these are advertised as being made of sterling silver when in fact most arent silver at all. I have tested this one yet but my suspicion is that its not silver or a very low grade silver. This really doesnt effect the value too much as its an incredibly made old, rare piece jewelry. Beautiful red/ornate center stone which is made from glass. It is signed on back with either the makers name or a former owner name. Please inquire with any questions and inspect photos carefully.
