Old Vintage Afghan Huge Turkmen Necklace Gold-Gilded Tomar Statement Boho, TN263. Length: About 28 or so. Bottom Pendant Length: About 12.5 or so. Pendant Width: About 7.25 or so. Colorful cabochons you see are glass and carnelian. How old is this Pendant on the necklace? I was told over 50 years old or so, made before the Soviet occupations of Afghanistan perhaps made in the 1950s or so. So, that means before 1979. Approximately 50 years more or less. Don’t know the exact year. But, they are difficult to find like this jewelry. Only some people in the villages in northern Afghanistan may have them. Tribal Jewelry may have some wears & tears, missing beads or glasses, dangles, miss match of pairs.. Etc so, please look at at the images carefully before purchasing. I took several images and very close up photos are taken to show you exactly what you will be receiving. Very old highly collectible antique austro-hungarian brooch / pendant. Lacy sterling silver filigree is set with a central raspberry red rhodolite garnet cabochon and framed with an interesting green blue turquoise like stone. I was assuming the green gems were bezel set turquoise, but upon close inspection they have scrape marks on each top. Perhaps they are some sort of early paste, manmade material, ceramic, or maybe this was just the method of setting/grinding the stones at the time. Totally interesting and original either way. There aren’t any marks that I can find – but jewelry from this region and era is known to have very small hidden markings. It does test to be sterling silver. The loops on each end when the piece is laying horizontal vary in shape ever so slightly – I think it was designed that way so you could also wear this as a pendant. Even the reverse or back side has fancy scrolling engraving / metalwork. Simple c clasp pin back hardware. Measures approximately 1 5/8″ x 1 1/8″. Great vintage condition – no damage or quirks to mention.
